About Robert

Robert's exposure to music began as a young child listening to his family sing.  He started playing trumpet at the age of 10 and started singing in his first choir at age 11.  He marched in his first marching band in 6th grade with his Jr. High School Marching Band.   Since then Robert has performed all over the United States, Canada, England, and Ireland.

Immediately after graduating high school Robert began teaching marching programs. He started designing drill in 1994 and since then has designed field shows for high schools, Drum Corps, and Youth Bands all over California, Texas, and England.

Robert studied music at West Valley College and San Jose State University.  He was a member of the San Jose State Marching Band for 4 years, 3 as their drum major.  In 1995 he performed with the now six time Drum Corps International World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard, where he marched Soprano (Trumpet).  In 1998 Robert was asked to instruct with the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets as a visual instructor.  In 1999 he became the visual caption head and in 2000 the Vanguard Cadets won their first DCI Open Class (Division 2 then) World Championship.  In 2000 after winning the Open Class Championship they went on to become the first division two corps ever to qualify for the World Class (Division 1 then) semi-finals.  (Top 17 in the world)

 

From 2003-2005 Robert served as an assistant director for the corps and on the brass staff. In 2009 Robert returned to the Vanguard Cadets as their Tour Director and in 2010 Robert took the position as the Corps Director and served in that roll for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.  In 2004 Robert started a  9 year journey as the Marching Programs Director at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara.

Outside of the Marching Band world, Robert works full time for San Mateo County Public Safety Communications as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Fire Dispatcher. (911 Dispatcher)

Robert also serves as a Volunteer for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (Dive Team).  Robert has been with the dive team since 2000 when he was brought onto the team as a side scan sonar operator and trainer.
